The Smoking Goat Restaurant
French bistro in San Diego with a California twist
Family-owned and operated by Fred and Tammy Piehl, The Smoking Goat has been part of San Diego's North Park neighborhood since 2010. Rooted in classic French cooking and Chef Fred Piehl's Le Cordon Bleu Paris training, it's the kind of neighborhood bistro where dinner can be a Tuesday night at the bar, a first date, an anniversary, or a table your family returns to year after year.
In the kitchen, everything begins with the ingredients. We search high and low for the best we can find, from organic Jidori chicken and beautiful California produce to diver scallops from Maine and mussels from Prince Edward Island, Canada. Fred works closely with farmers, ranchers, fishermen and purveyors to source ingredients worthy of the simple French cooking at the heart of our menu.
You'll find the classics we've become known for alongside dishes that change with the seasons: French onion soup, escargots, steak frites, duck à l'orange, diver scallops and our goat cheese cheesecake.
But The Smoking Goat has always been about more than what's on the plate. It's warm service, a great bottle of wine, a familiar face, and a table where you can settle in for the evening.
Come for dinner. Stay awhile.
